HomeROKC History

The Rideau Osgoode Karate Club was formed in 1988 in the village of North Gower situated in the Township of Rideau.  The chief instructor, Sensei Albert Ethier, resides in the village of Osgoode hence the name Rideau Osgoode Karate Club.

The club began by teaching a Saturday morning class at the public school in North Gower.  By the end of December 1988, the student body of the club requested to have more training sessions.  By the time January 1989 rolled in, we were conducting classes two evenings a week in addition to Saturday's class.

In the fall of 1990, we moved from North Gower to the Osgoode Community Centre where we stayed for a year.  At that time, the opportunity came for our club to have its own location. We relocated our club to the old H. And B. foodliner store on Main St. in Osgoode and subsequently moved to our present location.

We now hold karate classes Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings and also Saturday mornings, followed by a Ju-Jitsu class. We have a second Ju-Jitsu class on Wednesday evenings. We host special events on Friday nights; the second Friday of every month is reserved for special classes for brown and black belts only.
